Sir Gilbert Grindle,
259
If you can without impropriety cause any such suggestion to be made without the Colonial Office being aga in moved thereto by His Excellency the Governor I should be very grateful, and I am sure that H.E. (whom, in his own way, i have found very sympathetic) would rejoice.
As Boxer matters come technically under the Foreign I am sending a letter in a somewhat similar senge to
office. rid my en acquaintance Sir Eyre Crowe.
It will probably have come to your notice that I am minded to retire next spring. I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience of the Far East, but I feel that I have been out
off from England as long as is good for me. You may be interested
to hear that no question has arisen as to my obligation to learn classical Chinese!
Sincerely yours,
B.E. Agadi
